The Drama
Hey everyone, and welcome, today we will be talking about the film The Drama. Fun Fact: Composer Daniel Pemberton stated that the score was recorded in one day at Abbey Road. This film came out in 2026 and stars Zendaya and Robert Pattinson and was directed by Kristoffer Borgli. So without further ado, let's get right into it.
The Drama follows Emma and Charlie, who are set to get married, until Charlie learns of a secret from Emma’s past that makes him question if he wants to marry her. Tensions rise as the date approaches, and some surprises await them on their wedding day.
The Drama is a relationship Drama movie. It has similar vibes to Crimson Peak, Tell Me Lies, or Gone Girl.
The Drama is a movie that caught my eye because the leads have been in some absolute bangers, and the interviews with them before the film were entertaining, so it made me more interested in the movie. It’s a movie that you should go into blind to be surprised. The movie is interesting because it really made me wonder how much someone could accept about someone’s past before they decided to call it quits, even if they have a wedding coming up. The movie makes you wonder if the wedding is still happening, what will happen if it does, and whether someone will get shot. It also made me wonder who actually caused the drama throughout the film.
Zendaya stars as Emma, whom we slowly learn about, and she seems kind and nice, but in a game that she plays with her friends, where they reveal the worst things they’ve done, hers is that she planned to commit a school shooting, which is why her hearing is gone on one side because she shot a rifle too close to her ear. Her friend Rachel storms out because Rachel’s cousin got shot in a school shooting and is wheelchair bound, and she is angry that Emma would ever think of doing that. Her character obviously planned on doing something bad in high school, but now as an adult, she has tried to move on and really made me question if I would behave the same because it is a scary idea, but at the end of the day, she also didn’t commit the crime. Emma clearly gets stressed out because everyone freaks out and looks at her differently, so she doesn’t know if the wedding is still on and how to gain everyone’s trust back. She spends most of the film worried, internally panicking, which made me feel even more stressed out.
I also want to point out Zendaya’s premiere outfits. She always eats on the red carpet, and I love how she did something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue for the different premieres, which fit so perfectly with the theme.
Robert Pattinson plays Charlie, who plans to marry Emma, but with the past revelation of her planning a school shooting, he wonders how much he really knows her and if he should marry her. He starts crashing out, and it’s like part of him wants to believe she is a good person, part of him is scared of her because he thinks she will kill him, and part of him starts lashing out at other people and generally just seems unstable. I knew something would happen to him at the wedding, and I assumed shot because of a flashforward early on, but we later learn he actually just gets knocked out after word-vomiting when he gets up to do a speech and tells everyone’s secrets, including him making out with his coworker, which makes her boyfriend hit him. The way he was acting made me upset because he said he was ok, but his actions didn’t seem like he was ok, and I was just wondering how long it would all last before he crashed out.
There was some great chemistry between Robert and Zendaya from the first meeting until reintroducing themselves at the end. The chemistry between them made them seem like a real couple in love, but also a real couple going through something crazy and wondering how to understand what the other is thinking. Seeing them made me feel like I was a third wheel in an awkward situation for 2 hours while they figured their stuff out, and as much as I wanted to escape the awkwardness, I couldn't.
Mike, played by Mamoudou Athie, was really just trying to keep the peace. He was the most level-headed one of the group and wasn’t trying to add to more drama, but was the peacemaker of the group. I liked his character because I felt he saw everyone overreacting a bit and just wanted to address the situation and not just blow up and walk away, leaving all this drama to fester. I think by the end, he was truly over it all.
Rachel, who was played so well by Alana Haim, so much so that I hated her so much. She was one who was on this high horse throughout the entire movie and blew up with Emma's revelation. The thing that makes me a bit upset with her is that her revelation is bad too, because she almost killed a special needs kid because she was playing a prank, and then when people wondered where the kid was, she didn’t say anything until it became a search and rescue. Emma’s worst thing she has ever done was bad, but at the end of the day, no one actually got hurt but her, while Rachel actually got someone hurt. It was crazy because she was even giggling when telling her story, like it was fine, and said she doesn’t know where the kid is now, which made me think she was lying. I don’t even know why she came to the wedding in the end cause all she did was get drunk and look irritated. She was a hypocrite, and while I don't think what Emma did is acceptable, I don't think what Rachel did was either.
The way the movie was structured with flashbacks and flash-forwards had me so interested to see how everything would play out. I thought in the end there would be a shooting at the wedding, just not done by Emma, which had me on the edge of my seat, and thank god it wasn’t that but just some good ole drama. The flashes slowly give you the full picture, and you learn more about the situation, which lets you understand Emma more and why her friends and fiancé are worried. It just helped to really nail the drama aspect and really take wedding scares to a whole new level.
The drama has some cool things going on, but I think my favorite parts of the film were the plot twists that weren’t big but surprising. With me going in blind, it just wasn’t something I was particularly expecting, so seeing the reason for the drama and then how everything plays out in the end was surprising to me, and I really enjoyed how they handled it.
The Drama is a drama-filled wedding movie that will have you questioning if they will make it to the altar. The cast was great, as well as the score, and it makes you question how much you know someone and who really caused all this drama.
