Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2

Hey everyone, and welcome, today we will be talking about season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Fun Fact: the art in the end credits has easter eggs that hint at events that happen throughout the season. This season came out in 2025 and stars Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffreies, and Aryan Simhadri, and was created by Rick Riordan and Jonathan E.Steinberg. So without further ado lets get right into it.

Season 2 sees Percy, Annabeth, and Percy’s new brother, Tyson, going to rescue Grover from the Sea of Monsters, where Polythemus is holding him. After Luke attacks and poisons Thalia’s tree at Kronos’s order, Clarice also goes on a quest to get the golden fleece to hopefully heal the tree and reinforce the barrier to save Camp Half-Blood.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians is based on a book series, so the foundation is laid out, but they will make changes if they want. I have read the first in the series and seen the movies, but with season 2 focusing on Sea of Monsters, this was new territory since, from my understanding, the movie changed a lot. I was excited to continue the story and see how this journey ties into Percy stepping more into his role of a demigod and figuring out how to stop a war between demigods backed by Kronos and deadbeat parents, aka the gods. I think the season started a bit slow, but once they were on the mission, it picked up and had me interested in how they were going to save the day.

Everyone is on the hunt for the Golden Fleece this season, which is located in the Sea of Monsters, which made me surprised that the Golden Fleece wasn’t the name of the second book. Honestly i think I forgot that the Sea of Monsters is like everything in the Bermuda Triangle, including Polyphemus and Circe’s home. It was interesting how Kronos wants the fleece so he gets to full power, and Clarice and Percy want it to save Thalia’s tree, but realize on the journey that it could bring Thalia back. It was cool to show how well the healing properties of the fleece worked. I love that the fleece was literally the wool coat from a sheep and not some fancy-looking piece of fabric. With the amount of power the fleece has, it does make me question if more items like it hold immense power.

Percy Jackson is played by Walker Scobell, who does a good job playing this character who really cares for his friends and tries to protect them while saving the world. It’s interesting to see how that’s his fatal flaw, as stated by Circe, as he sacrifices himself to try and let Annabeth get past the sirens, and later, saves her when she’s with Luke and going after Grover over the fleece. While it could be seen as a weakness, it also creates friends since he works with a lot of these demigods to save the camp. He’s very protective of his newfound brother, Tyson, even if at first he's annoyed with him, but by the end, I loved their relationship and how much they meant to each other.  I do wish we got more of his abilities this season besides just GPS. I love how, even though there is a prophecy about him saving or destroying Olympus, he doesn’t just sit still, but tries to be a hero. I hope he practices his fighting skills because he got his butt whooped by Luke.

Percy is accompanied by friends and enemies who become friends on this journey. Annabeth, played by Leah Sava Jeffries, is the daughter of Athena who tries to save Percy by telling Clarice not to pick him for the quest. She is super strategic, smart, and has photographic memory, which helps get them out of many binds and exploit their foes’ weaknesses. Groover, played by Aryan Simhadri, is being held by the cyclops Polythemus, and he makes this empathy link so he and Percy can talk to each other and share where he is. I love how compassionate he is, how courageous he is on his journey to find Pan,  and how he was so smart so he could survive Polythemus, even though we later learn that Polythemus actually knew Grover wasn’t a bride. Grover also shows how other mythical creatures in this universe aren’t evil and work together with the gods and demigods. Tyson is introduced first as a friend that Sally takes in, but later revealed to be Percys Brother, played by Daniel Diemer. He is invulnerable to fire, amphibious, has great hearing, and is strong. There are so many demigods scared of him because he’s a cyclops, but he is the kindest person in the show so far and will do anything for his new family. Clarisse, played by Dior Goodjohn, is a foe of Percy and a daughter of Ares, so she’s a great fighter, but is more aggressive and doesn’t really plan ways to win battles, but wins more with brute force. She starts off trying to impress her dad by completing this quest and proving that she is fierce and strong, which rubs a lot of people the wrong way. She is set on completing the mission and feels she has to do it alone, and with the kindness from Percy and Annabeth, she realizes that she doesn’t have to fly solo, and help is very beneficial. She grew on me a lot this season because I could slowly see how she was realizing that, as much as she wanted to back her father and hate Percy, he was on her side, and fighting with him instead of working with him was slowing them down.

Kronus, the titan, needs the fleece to heal and enact revenge on his kids. He uses Luke, who creates a rebellion of demigods and monsters to help do this. Luke, played by Charlie Bushnell, hasn’t done anything to get me to like him, and I think everyone defending him makes me hate him more because he’s just out here stabbing people and putting lives in danger, and his dad wants Percy to help save him, which, HELLO, you could help your son. Beatrice Kitsos plays Allison Simms, whom I would say is Luke’s right hand and is a daughter of Apollo, hence her using archery as her primary skill. I loved seeing how, when Luke was having second thoughts, Kronos went to her, which shows that Kronos is just using them, which I hope we see more of. She was actually annoying to me because she was in the way of the heroes, but seemed scared to fight in close combat, so she stayed shooting arrows. Of course, Luke recruits monsters as well, which seem dumb but are very useful as we see giants making fireballs. The camp has some people inside who are on Luke’s side, so I’m interested to see if they weeded them all out or are there more.

A cool thing about the Percy Jackson books and the show is that they teach a younger generation about Greek mythology in a more palatable way. As someone who enjoys looking and learning about mythology, I can see how the information can be overwhelming if not presented correctly. There’s so much introduced in season 1, and with this season we get more Greek mythology like Laistragonians who were man-eating giants, Stymphalian(stim-FAY-lee-en) birds which have razor-sharp beaks, sirens who lure people to their death, hippocampus who are just so adorable, Charybdis(ka-rib-dis), Scylla (cilla), Tantalus, and Circe to name a few. It’s cool to introduce so much new stuff while continuing the story of Percy.

Going into this season i did forget this was a kids/young teen show, so the violence and blood are minimal. Luke is being influenced by Kronos, but there is only so much I can say is justified by that, and in my head i was thinking they should be aiming to take down instead of hoping he will come around. Some of the battles see the heroes holding back, but it always looks like he’s aiming to kill. I feel like there is so much emphasis on people saying they don’t think Luke is evil and that he could come around, but he doesn’t show it. It feels like the heroes have this optimism that is seen in younger kids, that he’s not really evil, but the only reason I question it is because they’ve seen him do so much evil. I’m not saying this show needs to highlight bloody fights and violence, but I do think a lot of the fights play it very safe.

Thalia is the daughter of Zeus, played by Tamara Smart, in many flashbacks. Her character’s sacrifice is the heart of this story and plays a vital role in the reason they even go on this mission. It was interesting to learn so much about her via Annabeth and learn about the relationship that she had with Luke and Grover as well. I’m glad in the end she survives, and they give a glimpse at how powerful she is as one of the kids of one of the big 3, which means she could be a part of the prophecy. One thing they fail to bring up, which I really think they should have, is letting us know if the camp will be safe without her being in the tree. It’s confusing because the tree helped create a strong barrier, but does her being out of it create a weak barrier now, because we see how Luke isn’t scared to launch an attack? We learn in the finale that she didn’t actually get killed by the furries, but that they told her something Zeus didn’t want her to hear, and when she refused to stay at camp, he turned her into a tree and spread this false story. I really want to know what she said and how she and Percy interact now that they are the only 2 kids of the big three, because upon first meet their is a lightning storm which seems to hint at future clashing.

The adults in the show suck, but what else would you expect when the kids at the camp have never met their godly parents, and if they have its just briefly. I will say the exception is Sally, who is the best adult on the show and always looks out for her son and his friends, and even took in Tyson. It’s really not a surprise, though, that Luke hates the gods because his dad is absent. I'm pretty sure Percy has met Luke’s dad more than he has. Percy is always entranced by his dad, but he also keeps popping up whenever. Zeus turned his daughter into a tree because she didn’t listen to him. Tantalus tried to kill Percy and only cared about himself, and deserved that fireball. Circe is over here being a dang scam artist. I think the worst thing is that all these gods see these kids possibly in trouble, considering they are always fighting for their lives, and they just do nothing but let them need help, then all of a sudden they expect their kids to listen to them.

My favorite part of the show was episode 5, when we are in Circe’s spa. I loved seeing Percy and Annabeth trying to find a way off Circe’s island and really seeing through all her lies. When Circe turns Percy into a guinea pig i thought he would be like that for a while, but the episode showed the true smarts of Annabeth when she realizes that Percy is a guinea pig and saves him. Annabeth and Percy try to leave past the sirens, but Circe, being bitter, steals the beeswax to shut their ears. One of my favorite parts in this episode ended up not being real, but Annabeth thinks she can fool the sirens, which Circe has stated was her flaw, by thinking she is smarter than everyone but also looking for her mom’s approval. The Sirens lead her into a trap using a flashback, and she kills two of them, but the third is mad and almost kills her until her mom, Athena, played by Andra Day, saves the day with this epic entrance, and honey, I was shocked. Her mom talks about how she is impressed, and Annabeth is just so happy to meet her finally, but then it switches back to reality, which is that none of that was real, and she is seconds from being killed, and Percy saves her, showing his flaw, which is his loyalty to his friends. It was a great episode that reinforces that Annabeth and Percy work well together, but their flaws are dangerous.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 got off to a slow start, but it got better as the season went on. It’s interesting to see this journey while learning about Greek history because I love it when a show or movie encourages me to look up stuff. I’m glad they announced season 3 already, so we don’t have to wait long for it.
